2023 NEW OFFERINGS

Ask DrG: This is a 60-120 minute (your choice) Q&A with Dr. Gunderson for your organization, staff, teachers, students, or parents. This is an opportunity for people to ask their questions (directly or anonymously) and have them answered live. You can choose to have a topic focus or leave it open.

Consultations: This is primarily for groups/organizations that have had a racial or other equity issue and need consultation. There is the possibility of just meeting with DrG once a month to discuss or strategize how to be more equitable with anyone in your organization.

You Can’t Be Neutral: This is a basic introduction to bias, racialized violence, equity, diversity, inclusion, power & privilege, microaggressions, barriers and solutions to perpetuating and sustaining racial and social justice and equity.

I Just Don’t Get It: This is a 90 minute discussion for members of organizations that don’t understand why equity is so much of a focus and are either afraid, embarrassed, or believe the focus is unnecessary.

How do I Explain It: Are you an administrator who can’t figure out how to explain JEDI to minimize the resistance your facing with co-workers, other administrators, employees, parents? Are you dealing with challenges of how to teach in the environment of JEDI or “Critical Race Theory” pushback? Then, this is the conversation for you.

Microaggressions? You hear about them everywhere and see them but do you really understand what they are? This workshop is for participants and/or organizations that are looking for a common understanding in discussing these incidents of violence. In this workshop, participants will understand and interactively explore different categories of microaggressions, their themes, their underlying messages and their impact. One focus is discussing the microaggressions that are most commonly faced in their organization.

Bystander Intervention: This is a training to understand the psychological model around bystander intervention especially as it applies to racialized violence, identifying the obstacles that would stop you from intervening and the strategies to intervene.

Gweh Microaggressions*: This is a training for how to disrupt and dismantle common microaggressions in your specific setting (e.g., in schools, in office, in public). The workshop begins with a brief review of microaggressions and the bystander intervention model as it pertains to race (or other isms). Then, specific interventions are discussed including an exploration to understanding participants own obstacles/barriers to intervening, followed by an introduction and practice of specific interventions to disrupt and dismantle microaggressions. Interventions can be personal, group, or systemic in nature.

*This interactive workshop is for participants who are already versed in understanding different types of microaggressions (i.e., microinsults, microinvalidations, microassaults), their themes, their underlying messages and their impact. A brief review of microaggressions and the obstacles to engaging in bystander intervention is reviewed. But, the focus is on actual training/role playing disrupting the micro aggressions.

Whyte Dismantler : Back by demand and this time open for organizations.  This is a 4-6 week session for participants of European/White racial/ethnic backgrounds. It requires that all participants are available for the time period decided by the organization. Meetings can occur weekly or bi-weekly. A minimum of 4 people are needed.

Whyte Dismantler Focus on the “Moves of White Progressives”: This is a two-three series session reviewing how Whyte/European progressives can engage in behaviors and language that perpetuate racialized harm/violence unknowingly. This is for people who are in a moderate or advanced stage of their journey.

Roundtables are 60-90 minutes in length and facilitated by Dr. Gunderson. The size of the roundtable varies by the need of the organization.

IBPoC Dismantler : These are roundtables for persons of Indigenous, African/Caribbean/Black, Latinx, or Asian ancestry/descent to discuss the personal and professional impacts of racialization and racism on mental and physical well-being. These spaces are also meant to discuss some of the inter-racial harm we perpetuate on ourselves and other racialized persons with whom we work. We work with the organization to set the direction and theme.

JEDI Roundtables: The roundtables are designed for groups that are just beginning to create JEDI or EDI committee’s in their organization.

Advanced Roundtables: These roundtables discuss a particular issue or challenge that the organization may have regarding JEDI and becoming a more equitable organization.

Affinity Group Roundtables: These roundtables can be topic focused OR open to whatever the participants have on their mind.  These roundtables are separated by affinity group (e.g., IBPoC, non-IBPoC, ACB, Asian ancestry etc).

Back Again: “N-Word”: What about that N-pass? Do you want to know why the “GG” word is said or allowed in schools by some teachers (in and outside the classroom) and students? Do you want to know a little more of the history? Do you want to be part of breaking down the system instead of maintaining it? Do you wonder how to intervene when people say the “GG” word in the hallway or play it in the music? This is designed for either student audiences (middle/secondary) or for educators.
